Jack (Neutered) Mastiff Adult Male in Marietta, Ohio

My story
Jack is a majestic 1-1/2 year old male Mastiff mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 25, 2023. Unfortunately the individual who left him in our care did not provide any information about Jack but we are trying our best to reunite him with his owner.

Jack was not wearing a collar but, fortunately, he was microchipped. We have contacted the microchip provider with whom the chip was registered, but their policy was that (for privacy reasons) they could only contact the person who was registered the chip (which they agreed to do).

Jack has a brown/brindle short smooth coat, a sliver of white on his chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with dark brown 'teddy bear' eyes, black shading on his large muzzle, and short floppy ears.

Jack was a well-behaved gentleman when HSOV Kennel Tech Olivia Moretto accompanied him outdoors for Petfinder/Facebook photos after his intake procedures were completed.

Jack weighs 68 lbs and walks well on a leash. He has already been neutered.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Jack will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.

We hope that his owner will see Jack's pictures on our Facebook/Petfinder pages and know that he is safely in our shelter and really wants to go home.

UPDATE [The Rest Of The Story] .. Jack's owner contacted our HSOV Assistant Manager early in the morning on January 26th and was heartbroken to learn that Jack was left outside our shelter.

She (Jack's owner) lives 3-4 hours away from Marietta and had re-homed Jack for personal reasons and truly believed that he was going to have a perfect home.

Unfortunately the individual who picked Jack up and offered him a new home decided that Jack was not going to work out in her home .. So she brought him to HSOV and placed him in an outside kennel, but all of his toys and sweaters which the owner had packed and sent with him were not left with Jack.

We have learned information about Jack in order to help us find him the perfect home:

Jack has a sensitive stomach and had been fed Hill's Science Diet food.

Jack is good with other dogs, and his original owner had frequently taken him to their local dog park.

Small/young children frightened Jack, and the only time he'd been physically around a 3-year old Jack kept trying to hide from the child.

Jack had never been around cats before being re-homed, but it turned out that he is NOT good with feline friends.

Jack loves treats and toys.

He is crate-trained and knows the 'sit' and 'lay down' commands.

He's merely an overgrown puppy and a chewer, so his owner had gotten him toys by Playology and Kong.

Jack usually slept with his owner, but whenever she left he went into his crate.

Jack would do great with other playful dogs since he is high energy.

He loved doing sniff mat puzzles every day.

Jack ate so quickly that she also scattered some of his food around on the floor so he wouldn't choke on it.

His owner wrote that Jack is 'goofy, sweet, and the best dog in the world'.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Jack (Neutered), please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
